AMH test

DuoFertility have teamed up with a trusted laboratory to offer tests that will help couples understand their fertility and plan their family. We are now able to provide home tests for blood hormone? and sperm? analysis and support you by helping to interpret what the results mean for you.

AMH (Antimullerian Hormone) test is a blood test that is not currently generally available on the NHS which measures the level of AMH, a hormone that is released by your ovaries. This can be used to estimate a woman’s ovarian reserve (egg? supply) to give an indication of how much longer they will be fertile.

What is AMH?

AMH is produced by follicles developing within the ovaries which contain immature eggs. The process of a follicle maturing into an egg that is then released at ovulation? takes several months. To ensure a woman can ovulate regularly, there are follicles at every stage of development within the ovaries. The amount of AMH present is related to the number of follicles which are developing and so this is why the test can be used as a guide of ovarian reserve since these numbers decrease as a woman approaches the menopause.

Why take an AMH test?

You may be thinking of having children sometime in the future but want to gauge how long to leave it before you plan for a baby.

AMH levels can help tell you how your ovaries are performing and can give you an estimate on the number of fertile years you have left. This can be a useful guide when planning a family naturally or even for gaining an indication of how successful fertility treatment may be for you.

If you are considering IVF we would recommend testing both your AMH and FSH? levels. This will help to indicate how well you would respond to IVF treatment and assist you in planning when to take this course of treatment.

When should I have this test and how do I go about it?

AMH levels are quite stable throughout the menstrual cycle? so the test can be taken at a time convenient to you. We will send you a kit which contains all you need. Once you receive your test pack, simply organise for a blood sample to be taken at your local GP surgery. Please note that we can only offer this service to UK residents at this time.

The kit contains:

• All the items needed by the doctor or nurse to take the blood sample

• A form to send along with your sample to the laboratory

• A pre-paid envelope that has been specifically designed to send the blood sample to the laboratory safely.
