Male Infertility

Roughly half of all cases of infertility are due to male infertility. If you suspect that this aspect of infertility affects you as a couple, you should speak to your doctor, who will probably suggest carrying out a male infertility test such as a spermogram. If the spermogram reveals a low sperm count or low motility, you might want to consider visiting a urologist, or a male infertility specialist, who should be able to provide you with further advice. Although sperm count is not an exact measure of fertility, it can give a useful indication of a potential problem.

Like all fertility aids, DuoFertility can be very effective in certain cases of male factor infertility and less so in others. If you are concerned about your fertility, or would like to know more about male infertility problems or the range of male infertility treatments that are available, please feel free to speak to a member of our team of fertility advisers or click here for further information.

The most common causes of male infertility are:

  • Testicular injury and disease
  • Infections and sexually transmitted diseases
  • Varioceles
  • Problems with sperm
  • Pollution
  • Tubule blockage
  • Genetic disorders
  • Certain types of medication
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Erectile dysfunction and problems with ejaculation
  • Other disorders

There are a range of male infertility causes which may include lifestyle factors such as air and water pollution, stress, tobacco and alcohol which can all potentially affect the formation of healthy sperm. Several studies indicate that the fertility levels of our grandparents’ generation were much higher than ours; this is probably due to the fact that pollution is more of a problem nowadays, but is most likely to be due to a combination of factors.

The technology used by DuoFertility identifies the days of your cycle that you are most likely to conceive with great accuracy. So if you or your partner has male infertility problems such as a low sperm count or low sperm motility, or is undergoing treatment for male infertility, it is even more important for you to identify your most fertile days to maximise your chances of a conception. Timing intercourse correctly is essential in cases of both female infertility and male infertility.
