Baby-Making Intercourse
The best baby-making intercourse positions to assume during intercourse have received a great deal of attention in the past, and while there is no concrete evidence that one particular position is more effective than another, the received wisdom is that it always a good idea to have gravity on your side!
Positions that favour deep penetration and those that do not force the sperm to work against gravity are believed to be optimal for getting pregnant. These include the following:
- Missionary
In this position the man is on top; this is believed to be the best position for baby-making intercourse. It offers the deepest penetration thereby allowing semen to easily enter the cervix.
- Rear Entry
This position involves the man kneeling behind the woman while she is on her hands and knees. Like the missionary position, this position allows deep penetration. This position is also good for conception.
- Spooning
In this position, the man and the woman lie side by side facing the same direction with the man behind the woman.
The following positions are believed to be less good for getting pregnant:
- Woman on Top
In this position the woman is either sitting or lying on top of the man. This position may not be ideal for baby-making intercourse, as the sperm have to work against gravity. However, this is not to say that you cannot conceive in this position!
- Standing or Sitting
These positions are supposed to be less effective for conception because they do not allow deep penetration, making it difficult for sperm to reach the cervix.
Most couples like to make love throughout the month, while ensuring that they have intercourse more frequently around ovulation. Baby-making intercourse is much less about the position than it is about the timing.
