Age and Fertility

The media is constantly reminding women of the impact of their age on their fertility. According to many newspapers, by 30, your fertility levels have already started to fall, by 35, you should be starting to worry, and by the age of 40, there is really very little hope left of conceiving at all. If you have found yourself in this situation, whether because you took your time to meet the future father of your children, or because of a demanding career, it is only natural to be worried if you are still not pregnant after three to four months of trying! Statistics show that women over the age of 35 do still have a chance of conceiving, and using DuoFertility may help to increase your chances of conceiving at this age. So take your time deciding what is the right option for you and be sure to discuss any worries you may have with your GP.

Declining fertility is more of an issue for women than for men. Assuming that ovulation occurs normally, that sexual intercourse takes place during your most fertile days, and that there are no medical or health problems, statistics show that:

  • At the age of 25, a woman has a 30% –35% chance of conceiving per cycle.
  • At the age of 35, a woman has a 15% –20% chance of conceiving per cycle.
  • At the age of 45, a woman has a 3% –5% chance of conceiving per cycle.

Your Partner’s Age

Certain scientific studies have indicated that the age of a man can also affect your chances of getting pregnant. The reasons for this are not fully understood, but it is believed that the quality of sperm decreases with age, so delayed fatherhood may reduce your chances of successfully conceiving.
